when kajakaja posted her tutorial i immediately wanted to test my skills. i found a perfect piece of ikea fabric in my closet and bravely started with my work. i was so brave i even decided to install a zipper in the dress (to to this check out this great tutorial)! it all looked great and when the fabric was cut i didn’t waste any time and proudly rushed home to my mom to sew the pieces together with her sewing machine. but when it came down to sewing the hem around the neck and arm openings my mom gave me the ‘you’re not supposed to do it this way’ look and my naive attitude came to an end. she then told me it won’t work if i simply try to fold the edge of the fabric inward. to do it properly you should cut additional 2cm wide pieces of fabric with the same shape as the neck and arm sleeve opening, sew them to the openings and then iron them to the inside of the dress (see here). of course all the sewing lasted much longer than i had anticipated, but the dress is perfect now. thanks to my amazing mom i feel i will start making another new and improved dress pretty soon!
